Hunan’s Specialized and Innovative Enterprises (1): XUANCE Technology Solves Angular-Sensing Bottlenecks

China Economic Times (Cheng Xiaoxu, Huang Dongfeng) — Rapid growth in new-energy vehicles and humanoid robotics is expected to drive explosive demand for angular sensors, an essential precision component. Hunan MIAIXI Measurement & Control Technology Co., Ltd. and its parent company Hunan XUANCE Technology Co., Ltd. entered the specialized resolver-testing field with disruptive innovation, broke foreign technology monopolies, and built a full-chain service system spanning test equipment, production equipment, technical consulting, and high-end product development.

Chen Leshu, founder of XUANCE Technology and MIAIXI, told China Economic Times that technology innovation has been the company's core competitiveness since inception. The company has achieved multiple breakthroughs in angular-sensor testing and precision drive, resolved bottlenecks in angular sensing, and broken foreign monopolies. It also participates actively in standards development and has used technical and cost advantages to support domestic substitution, including replacing products from foreign suppliers such as North Atlantic Industries.

Technology Breakthroughs Solve Angular-Sensing Bottlenecks

China's resolver-testing sector was long dominated by foreign technology. A complete test system previously required five or six instruments, including an angle-position indicator, phase-angle voltmeter, and impedance analyzer. Instrument procurement alone could exceed RMB 600,000, and a complete system with precision turntables and integration services could approach RMB 1 million, with critical equipment dependent on foreign defense-related suppliers.

The founding team came from defense research institutes and leading companies and brought deep technical and industrial experience. By redesigning and integrating a power analyzer, the team developed a dedicated resolver analyzer that combines several instrument functions. According to Chen Leshu, integrating turntable and test control allows one instrument to provide the system-level capability of five or six high-end instruments, reducing customer testing costs by 70% and more than doubling testing efficiency.

MIAIXI's resolver analyzer integrates the functions of five or six traditional instruments and is priced at about RMB 300,000, 70% lower than comparable foreign solutions. Since its launch in 2018, it has achieved a bid-winning rate of nearly 100% in public tenders in the commercial market and more than 80% in the defense market. In December, the company plans to launch a next-generation angular-sensor analyzer and system solution with a modular design supporting magnetic, optical, eddy-current, and other angular sensors.

In precision drive, XUANCE has developed arc-second metrology-grade precision direct-drive turntables and 30,000-rpm high-speed direct-drive turntables with internationally advanced performance. These products address testing challenges created by the rapid growth of new-energy vehicles and have been purchased by customers including GAC and BYD for laboratory testing.

The company now operates through XUANCE Technology, MIAIXI Measurement & Control, and Jiangsu XUANCE Intelligent. It plans to establish a consulting research institute and a testing laboratory, extending its full-chain coverage from R&D and manufacturing to testing and application.

Standards Leadership and Industry Influence

Unlike companies that begin with imitation, XUANCE and MIAIXI pursue disruptive innovation based on system-level integration. “We do not simply replace an individual instrument; we reconstruct testing and production workflows so that one system can address the customer's full-chain requirements,” Chen Leshu said.

The company uses large AI models in place of conventional electromagnetic simulation, shortening resolver optimization cycles from one or two weeks to about ten minutes and increasing R&D efficiency by more than 500 times. This enables faster responses to customization requirements.

XUANCE has participated in one national standard and two national military standards. In 2025 it plans to lead one local standard and five association standards. The resolver and eddy-current sensor standards for new-energy vehicles are the first of their kind in the industry and fill domestic gaps. The company also plans to hold the industry's first annual resolver and eddy-current sensor conference with partners in December.

The resolver analyzer is being submitted for evaluation as an internationally leading technological achievement, and the high-precision inductive angular sensor has been included in a key Hunan research program. XUANCE serves more than 200 industry customers, including the world's top three resolver manufacturers, China's top ten manufacturers, defense institutes, aerospace organizations, and most new-energy vehicle and electric-drive factories, including Tesla, BYD, Geely, FAW, Dongfeng, Great Wall, Wuling, Yuchai, and CRRC.

From Domestic Substitution to International Leadership

Angular sensors are core components of industrial automation and intelligent manufacturing, and the market is growing rapidly. Chen Leshu estimates the global angular-sensor market at about RMB 40 billion, including roughly RMB 6 billion for high-precision, high-reliability products such as resolvers, with annual global production of about 90 million units. Electric-vehicle intelligence and robotics are expected to create another growth wave.

XUANCE has achieved a domestic market share above 70% in resolver test equipment and continues to increase its share in defense applications. The company has completed domestic substitution across North Atlantic Industries' product line and has begun exporting to Vietnam, Mexico, Russia, and other markets.
